The Beginning

In memory of her late husband Harold Stauffer, Connie Stauffer has contributed the lead gift for the Forward in Faith Endowment for Lifelong Learning.  "Harold and I believe that learning goes beyond schooling," says Connie.  "We shared a curiosity for learning which we then developed. Harold and I were both avid readers and in our marriage, we looked for opportunities to expand our  minds and experiences."

Harold spent his career in business consulting and in service with Eastern Mennonite missions as overseas secretary. As young adults, Connie and Harold served in northern Pennsylvania with migrant workers, in New York City and then in Somalia for four years.

Connie earned her bachelor's and master's degrees in elementary education from Millersville University and taught for 30 years in the classroom as a reading specialist in the Pequea Valley School District. As a teacher, Connie inspired her students to a love of learning that went beyond facts and figures.

As a Landis Homes board member, Harold was instrumental in bringing Pathways Insitute for Lifelong Learning to serve the Landis Homes community and beyond, thus providing formal and informal education experiences to those 55 years or older.  Connie continues to provide inspiration and leadership by serving on the Landis Homes Board of Directors and Advisory Board of Pathways Institute for Lifelong Learning.
