I became Manager of Dogwood and General Store Gift Shoppes in 2007 by answering an announcement that appeared in a Landis Homes newsleter. In other words, I volunteered. In recent years, I also took on the role of managing the Flea Market on Fellowship Day.
In both cases I was looking for “something” as a fill-in and as a way to feel valued. Volunteering created this opportunity. I am delighted to be a part of Landis Homes and to get to know the residents, employees and visitors with whom I interact each week. They inspire me.
I am also grateful that the time and energy I contribute has the beneft of increasing the benevolent care that provides resources for residents who are most in need. I approach each day with a thankful and giving heart. I enjoy each moment of volunteering with its interesting and sometimes challenging situations. And most of all, I plan to continue my responsibilities as well as throw a litle fun in the mix, to keep it interesting.
