Educational programs set for seniors

The Pathways Institute for Lifelong Learning, offered at Landis Homes, 1001 E. Oregon Road, Lititz, will kick off a new selection of classes for spring. The event will be held from 9:30-11 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 28, in the retirement community's West Bethany Chapel.

Instructors for the new sessions will be presenting short synopses of their course offerings. Refreshments will be offered, starting at 9 a.m., in the Azalea Dining Room.
The Institute's new term will begin the first week of March and run through the middle of May. The Institute, according to a press release, provides opportunities for adults ages 60 and older in Lancaster County and surrounding areas to engage in rewarding and enriching lifelong learning op­portunities.

Just a few of the 30-plus new topics being offered are: "Geology"; "William Shakespeare"; "Understanding Influenza"; "Facebook"; "Trees & Shrubs"; "The Crusades"; "Classical Composers"; "Dynamic Re­lationship Building"; "Bees as Native Pollinators"; "Spirituality & Aging"; "Cancer Genetics"; "Wildflowers"; "Adding Spice & Herbs to Your Life"; "The Ancient Silk Road through Central Asia"; "Story Writing"; "Local History" and many more. In addition, there will be visits to museums, historical societies and cultural centers for exhib­its, concerts and other special events.

A registration fee of $30 per Landis Homes resident or $45 per nonresident includes enrollment in up to five courses per semester. The introductory session this month is free.
