Poet-Photographer to Share from Book

March 2010

Janelle Schantz Hertzler will be visiting Landis Homes campus on March 25 for a poetry reading and a book signing of her book, Season's of Solace: A Story of Healing through Photos and Poems. The book is the result of her journey through grief after the sudden loss of her husband in 2005, while they and their 1-year old son were living and serving in Thailand.

Seasons of Solace is a book about Hertzler's personal grief journey and struggle to find healing. The story is told through narrative, slice-of-life poems, alongside nature photos that metaphorically speak to the emotions.

Hertzler was born in Alberta, Canada. She spent eight years of her life living in Thailand, teaching English and working in leadership development. She and her son currently live in Akron, PA.

"I did not set out to publish when I started writing these poems. I set out to find healing through writing. The poems express raw emotion. And I found that as I wrote them, emotion that seemed frozen within me began to thaw," says Hertzler.

Hertzler writes in the preface of the book, "Though these poems and photos are an expression of a journey through grief, my hope is that they will be meaningful to people in all seasons of life. Loss is something we all face, and I hope that you will be encouraged to find your own way to give expression to your journey as you read mine."

The event will take place in West Bethany Chapel at 1:00 p.m. on March 25. For more information about the book visit http://www.journey-through-grief.com . For more info on the event call 717-569-3271.

After the presentation Hertzler will autograph copies of her book. Books will also be available for purchase.
