Family member of early residents and volunteer
I experienced Landis Homes from the beginning through my aunt and uncle, George and Grace Leaman, who were the first administrator and matron. When the first 4 units A-B-C-D (now called Aspen, Birch, Cedar, Dogwood) were being built, I remember my Uncle George took us around explaining everything.
Other relatives lived here over the years including my parents. At that time residents, staff and visitors all ate together family-style in one dining room. I have now been a resident and volunteer for more than 20 years. My first volunteer job was in about 1993 in the Dogwood Gift Shoppe and I continue to volunteer in the general store.
I saw Landis Homes grow from the first residents to the large community it is today. I see it as still being the best and friendliest place to be retired.
