This up-to-date center in the Dogwood Commons Therapy Department is fully equipped to handle diverse rehabilitation needs. Treatment is provided by experienced licensed therapists who specialize in the care of older adults. Physical therapists, occupational therapists and speech therapists work together in an integrated team approach assuring an effective, personalized rehabilitative strategy to improve quality of living.
- Physical Therapy…relieves pain, strengthens muscles and improves balance and walking. Therapy is focused on restoring function for maximum independence. Therapists will evaluate and train the residents with the use of canes, walkers or other assistive devices. Multiple modalities are offered with heat and cold therapy, electrical stimulation, ultrasound and massage for pain relief.
- Speech Therapy improves the ability to communicate as well as enhances memory and thinking skills. Speech therapy also helps residents with difficulty in swallowing by teaching techniques for safer swallowing and by altering diets to allow safe and easier nutrition.
- Occupational Therapy enables residents to regain their daily activity skills of bathing, dressing and mobility. Therapists make recommendations for equipment and modifications of the living environment to improve safety and independence. Residents can be assessed for the need for a wheelchair, lift chair or an electric scooter. The therapists will assist in obtaining the equipment and will provide training for their proper use. Residents’ driving skills and safety on the road can be evaluated for our older population.
