Jim and Janette Godfrey lived for 32 years and raised their two daughters in their home in Lancaster. Since Jim had served on a senior living community board and his father had received care there, the couple decided last year to start the process of finding a place for themselves to live in retirement. In October 2018, they decided to visit Landis Homes at the annual Explore Retirement Living open house.

“Right away we were impressed with the Crossings apartments, the bistro and the learning and wellness center, all of which were brand new,” said Jim. “Both the residents and employees were so friendly and we heard many good things about living here.”

They made an appointment shortly after the open house to find out more. To their surprise, seven months later they moved into Crossings West, the third and final phase of the new apartments.

“Once we made the decision, we felt a great deal of gratitude for the Lord’s blessing,” said Janette. “Our children told us after we made the decision, that they were very happy we had made this choice. As it turns out, we did it for ourselves and also for our family.”

When asked what advice they have for others who are considering a move, they both agreed that “planning ahead” is essential.

Residency Planning Director Sarah Short noted that while most of Landis Homes 875 residents are from Lancaster County, the Crossings apartments are home to people from a wide variety of states. These include Minnesota, Washington, Virginia, New York, North Carolina, South Carolina, Massachusetts and Connecticut as well as other parts of Pennsylvania.

“Though the Crossings apartments are now full,” says Sarah, “folks interested in future residency should give us a call.”
