Local Artist to Bring Watercolors to Crossings Gallery at Landis Homes

An art reception at Crossings Gallery on May 9, 2019 will feature the most recent works of Lancaster artist, Beky Weidner. This exhibit, titled Weathered, consists of watercolor paintings completed in the past couple of years. It features images from nature, many of them from within a few miles of her home, along with some old architecture.

Weidner says, “The theme was inspired by finding beauty in things which have been worn and weathered, but still retain their essential character.”

Weidner attended Bethel College in Kansas where she studied art and received her teaching certification. She taught a range of art courses at Lancaster Mennonite School for ten years, followed by time working at Ten Thousand Villages as a designer in the Visual Merchandising department.

Beky currently teaches ceramics and sculpture to high school students at Lancaster Country Day School. She maintains a home studio where she says she enjoys experimenting with printmaking, stained glass and watercolor painting. Though she and her husband Larry are native Midwesterners, they have lived in Lancaster for over 20 years, and have two teenage children, Zach and Alison.

The opening reception, to which the public is welcome, is from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, May 9, in the Crossings Art Gallery. Beky’s husband, Larry Penner, will provide live piano and guitar music.

The works will continue to be on display through July 2019. Landis Homes is located at 1001 E Oregon Rd, Lititz. For more information, call Landis Homes at 717-381-3550 or visit landishomes.org.
