The Fall 2018 term of the Pathways Institute for Lifelong Learning® at Landis Homes began with a Kickoff Reception on July 24 at Calvary Church. Over 200 persons participated in the event which also included celebrating the 10th Anniversary of the program with teachers and students.
The celebration had remarks from founders Lenora Stern who helped start the original program at Messiah Lifeways in Mechanicsburg in 2006 and Connie Stauffer who was instrumental in bringing the Lancaster program to Landis Homes in 2008.
Following opening remarks, a new video featuring current participants and board members was shown for the first time. The video “Pathways Institute for Lifelong Learning: 10th Anniversary,” is the creation of a father and son team, Roger and David Godin, who did the interviews and edited the final version.
There were then introductions of class instructors along with the tiles of courses they will be offering in the fall semester which starts in September. The new Pathways Institute catalogs along with online registration forms are currently available at www.thepathwaysinstitute.org .
The courses and events, which are scheduled from September to December, are open to all Lancaster County residents as well as residents from neighboring counties, who are age 55 years or above. Some of the new class titles include: Understanding the Opioid Crisis, Native American Spirituals, Trolleys of Lancaster County, Medicare 101, Four Masterpieces of 20th Century Short Story, Products from the Hive, and Living Younger, Longer.
There is a registration fee which includes enrollment in to up to 8 courses per semester as well as a per course option. There are also day trips including to the Museum of the American Revolution and to see the Eagles at Conowingo Dam, as well as special events which are offered in addition to the regular classes.
