Fellowship Day and the Joy of Bringing People Together – Miriam’s Story

You might have known the late Landis Homes resident, Miriam Housman. Miriam and her late husband, Harold, moved to Landis Homes after spending their lives overseas performing missions and medical work. Miriam’s passion was helping women and teaching children, and she did that all over the world. She also loved hosting people, and even though they didn’t have any family connections at Landis Homes, they had many friends. They also supported the Caring Fund throughout the years, and Miriam especially loved participating in Fellowship Day’s Share-A-Meal events with friends.

Harold passed away in 2009. After some time, Miriam began experiencing health challenges. She had to move from independent living to a higher level of care. Her financial situation became more tenuous.

“I am so grateful for the network of friends who helped move Mom across the Landis Homes campus, and for the assistance from staff who helped us work through her financials,” Miriam’s daughter, Ina Sue said. “I could not have done all of that without their help.”

Miriam passed away in May 2025. All of us at Landis Homes are grateful for her generosity for so many years, and the hope of her family and ours is to honor her memory with joyful gifts to the Caring Fund. Miriam loved giving to the Caring Fund and we have a special opportunity to also contribute.

Last year, 48 residents needed the assistance of the Caring Fund. Your gift will help them to continue to receive the services they need as they age with dignity.
