Fellowship Day and the Joy of Bringing People Together through Fill the Gap – Miriam’s Story

You might have known the late Landis Homes resident, Miriam Housman. Miriam and her late husband, Harold, moved to Landis Homes after spending their lives overseas performing missions and medical work. Miriam’s passion was helping women and teaching children, and she did that all over the world. She also loved hosting people, and even though they didn’t have any family connections at Landis Homes, they had many friends. They also supported the Caring Fund throughout the years, and Miriam especially loved participating in Fellowship Day’s Share-A-Meal events with friends.

Harold passed away in 2009. After some time, Miriam began experiencing health challenges. She had to move from independent living to a higher level of care. Her financial situation became more tenuous.

“I am so grateful for the network of friends who helped move Mom across the Landis Homes campus, and for the assistance from staff who helped us work through her financials,” Miriam’s daughter, Ina Sue said. “I could not have done all of that without their help.”

Miriam passed away in May 2025. All of us at Landis Homes are grateful for her generosity for so many years, and the hope of her family and ours is to honor her memory with joyful gifts to the Caring Fund. Miriam loved giving to the Caring Fund and now it’s our community’s special opportunity to show our love and care for others by giving to support the Caring Fund through Fill the Gap.
