Fellowship Days, Fill the Gap, and the Circle of Giving – Arlene’s Story

Fellowship Days and the Online Benefit Auction are coming September 14 – 19, 2026. Fill the Gap is the community’s response to a benevolent care need. All are welcome to participate in Fill the Gap which is the largest fundraising effort for the Caring Fund of the entire year.

You might know current resident, Arlene. Arlene and her late husband, Harold, married and had five children. They kept busy between work, church, camping in northern Pennsylvania, and raising a family. They have deep roots in Lancaster County and visited Arlene’s parents at Landis Homes regularly, eventually deciding to move onto campus in February 2006.

Harold passed away that December, but Arlene continued to live independently. She enjoyed taking trips, interacting within the community, playing games, knotting comforters with others, and reading. While Arlene still enjoys participating in these things, she has encountered health challenges that changed some of her abilities. Arlene and her family supported the Caring Fund through the Benefit Auction for several years, but now she is almost 100 years old and needs the help of the Caring Fund to fill the gap in her own care. 

This year, a $210 average gap per day exists between the cost of a resident’s care and what a resident can afford to pay. You will receive an invitation in your mailbox to be part of the community’s response to this need by donating half a day, one day, three days, or an entire week of care.

Generous friends of Landis Homes have also agreed to give a challenge gift, so your contribution will be multiplied! That means more residents will benefit from your help. So, please consider giving to Fill the Gap for a resident who needs help from the Caring Fund this year!
