We invite you to join us as we preserve our history and create new ways for residents of Landis Homes to live with purpose while pursuing their passions.

The overall cost of the improvements envisioned through this project is $2.4 million. Landis Homes has dedicated some funds from its capital budget. We have also established the Roots & Blooms Campaign to raise $1.75 million to ensure the project is fully funded.

Located on the eastern edge of the 114 acre campus, the barn is one of the primary landmarks of Landis Homes.

It is situated among a group of other historic buildings, including an already renovated farmhouse. These structures stood while generations of Long and Landis families lived and worked here. They have endured through the growth and development of Landis Homes, the preservation of the wetlands and so much more. The protection and renewal of the barn will demonstrate our commitment to honoring our past. A refresh of the exterior of the barn and the smaller of the two silos, will preserve history and provide a picturesque centerpiece for the Gardens neighborhood.

Lower Barn

The transformation of the lower barn will bring three locations where residents can pursue things that bring them joy:

• A 2,500 square foot wood shop complete with woodworking equipment, work stations and rooms for wood finishing and storage.
• A creative Maker Space designed for collaborative creation by resident artists and crafters. This area includes workstations, storage for supplies and an area for educational classes to be held.
• An indoor/outdoor gathering location will include an indoor meeting room with a stunning stone wall and a beautiful outdoor patio overlooking community gardens. These spaces can be used for family gatherings, social events and community meetings.

Community Gardens

Taking care of land is a cornerstone of life at Landis Homes. Cultivating the rich soil for growing food and flowers is a passion of many of those who live here. A new garden area will be located between the barn and farmhouse and will feature:

• Garden plots for growing vegetables, herbs and flowers.
• New gardening sheds for storage of supplies and tools. The sheds will reflect the design of the Gardens neighborhood.
• Stone terracing to keep soils in place and manage rain water. This design will also enhance the look of the community gardens during the winter months.

Crossings Green

Created during the construction of the High Learning & Wellness Center, the potential uses of the area known as “Crossings Green” have been unfolding. Through this project, the now beautiful, sunny location will be transformed into a more vibrant, usable space that will become a hub for resident interaction.

Proposed improvements to the Crossings Green include:

• Additional shade trees planted in the center oval of the green
• A permanent pergola on the patio outside the wellness center with louvers and shades to protect residents from direct sun, rain and other elements. A grill will be located at the edge of the pergola.
• New gathering areas with soft seating
• A fire table with seating around it

Multi-Purpose Courts for Pickleball, Tennis and Basketball

Remaining physically and socially active is an important part of a healthy life. Many residents enjoy walking, cycling and using the wellness center and pool. The addition of a multi-use court on south campus will accommodate tennis, pickleball and basketball. A landscape buffer will be added on two sides to help contain noise.
