Pictured, SuYoun Na holds her winning piece with Landis Homes residents Connie Stauffer, left, and Carole Symonds who served on the art jury this year.

“SuYoun is a talented student who enjoys using her gifts in a variety of ways,” says Kathy Ciaccia, LMHS art department director.

SuYoun is an international student who lives with a host family, Willie and Caroline Sierra, in Lancaster. Her family who live in South Korea include her father, KangJu Na, her mother, SanMi Lee and her sister, EunE Na.

A student at Lancaster Mennonite for the past three years, Na enjoyed many activities in addition to many art classes. She was part of the bell choir, the vocal choir, and the bowling team, as well as various art and music clubs. She also volunteered in a local program by serving lunch and helping with housekeeping.

Each year since 1995, Landis Homes selects a piece of artwork from the Lancaster Mennonite High School Spring Fine Arts Festival to become part of a permanent art collection on the retirement community campus. In return for the work, Landis Homes makes contributions to the Lancaster Mennonite School art department and to the student to help further their education. SuYoun is the 22nd student to receive this award.

“I haven’t firmly decided on which college to further my studies, but it will definitely be an art college,” says Na. “I am going to buy some Prisma color pencils with my award!”
