Something truly special recently happened at Landis Homes.

As part of the work of Lumina by Landis, students from the Mennonite Children’s Choir of Lancaster and residents of Landis Homes took part in Building Connection Through Music: Dementia Care Training experience.  This wasn’t just a performance; students from the choir were forming meaningful connections.

Across two sessions, more than 100 students from elementary through high school spent time with residents in times of music, conversation, and simple presence. Before their visit, students received training about brain changes, positive physical approach, and how to engage in meaningful ways with someone living with dementia.

And the impact was immediate. Students were quick to tell their stories, “My resident said…” and “I talked with my resident about…”Those small words reflected something powerful: connection and belonging.  One student shared through tears that the experience “made her entire day.” Another said she felt truly heard by a resident in a way she had not often experienced before. Middle school students left asking when they could come back to learn more about the lives and stories of those they met.

This is what happens when music becomes more than entertainment: it becomes a bridge between generations.

We are deeply grateful for our continued partnership with MCCL and for opportunities to create spaces where joy, learning, and human connection flourish.  #LuminaByLandis #LandisHomes #IntergenerationalConnection #DementiaCare #MusicHeals #PurposefulLiving
